MODEL START
"People have always told me I should model. Finally, one man who stopped me on the street actually had details about getting started. Unfortunately, Canadians don't really get me-- I'm too ethnic-looking for them.
My mom's German, but my dad's Indian, so I got teased a lot in school, because kids never like what's different. Anyway, when I went to live in Italy and then Paris, my career took off.
Now I do everything--ads, editorial, and runway, which is my favorite part of being a model."
THE TROUBLE WITH BEAUTY AND FAME
"I'm a suspicious person, and I definitely know when a man's coming on to me because of my looks. And that makes me sick--like, all that matters is I'm pretty? Apparently, the Prince of Belgium is dying to meet me.
He recently asked some photographer for my number, but he refused to give it out, thank God. People think I'm public property. They'll come up to me on the street and kiss me, which is scaly."
BODY TALK
"Weight has never been a problem for me--I'm five feet ten, a hundred and twenty-two pounds, I think. But I'm not pleased with my body--there's not enough muscle tone.
So when I'm in New York, which is where I'm based these days, I work out with a personal trainer. He has me doing weights and exercises at a gym. Later, we'll work on aerobics."
FASHION FETISH
"Shopping is the best therapy--if I'm angry, upset, it always calms me down. But I'm into personal style--I won't wear all one designer. Except Azzedine Alaia, whose stuff is incredibly sexy.
Otherwise, I find creating a look much more fun. My biggest weakness is shoes. I can't even count how many pairs I have. I doubled my closet space, but there's still not enough room for them."
